Warm december

I woke up early Saturday morning to catch the rising sun. However, I was so tired after a long work week with early mornings and little sleep, so I was late. I didn't leave home until around 8. When I arrived at the lake the sun was already above the horizon, beaming with its golden morning light over trees and water.

I was amazed at the sight. Here I was, mid-december, and despite the cool air, it felt more like March than December.

Even so, it was a great morning for photography.

I tried my new filters but realised I need to go even darker to get the desired effects and keep the sharpness in the photos. I had to go down to aperture 18 for the water effect, and compromising with sharpness. (In yesterday's blog entry you can see the difference between aperture 8 and 18).

I have ordered two new filters to be able to go a total of 9 steps darker hopefully. So I will experiment again. Can't wait. :)

Anyway. Back to warm December. Something is not right when there is no sign of winter. It is not unusual to not have snow in December, but several days have been warmer than midsummer. That is NOT normal. This day was colder than "normal" for this year though. Around 0. But that is still unusually warm for December.

The ducks might like it though. They can still swim and play in the sunlit water. Where do they go when the lake freezes? Anyone who knows?
